At Braathe Enterprises, I worked as a Human Resource Intern. I conducted interviews for the next set of interns, created or updated projects, and had the overall flexibility to make the most out of my internship experience.

2. Supported onboarding and orientation by reviewing and updating materials.
3. Collaborated with peers from other departments, such as marketing and finance, to see how HR connects to broader business functions.

Braathe Enterprises - Intern Recognition Nomination Form

Here is an example of one of the projects I worked on to improve employee retention and foster a healthy environment. Interns who are nominated receive a shoutout on Slack in the "CurrentInternsandTeams" channel and a PDF certificate of their accomplishment.

Although this form was already created, I noticed a couple of errors that could prevent Human Resource Interns from reaching out for clarification or additional information. One of the biggest issues I saw within this document was people filling it out and seeking internships that we do not offer. To make things easier, I listed all the internships we provide and gave the option to check off multiple if someone was interested in more than one position.

Personal Development

The skills that I improved on during this internship were my professional skills. I realized how much time management and organizational skills are needed to communicate with potential interns. Especially when reviewing qualifications and accurately documenting information on a shared Excel sheet with current interns. I also had the opportunity to improve my collaboration skills through a couple of projects. One of them, I took the lead on and suggested layouts and delegated tasks to each member. Overall, I developed and improved on skills that will further support my long-term goal of working in Human Resources. The contributions I made in this role include collaborating on projects with other interns, participating in virtual networking events, reviewing applicants' documents, and ensuring the Excel sheets are accurate. A specific area for growth that I am working on is taking more initiative. Within this internship, I think that I could have suggested and collaborated on more projects. But, I was more interested in gaining experience in recruiting than I lost sight of other goals I wanted to accomplish.

Academic Connections

A course that helped guide how I approached my internship was "Organizational Behavior & Human Resources for Healthcare," which touched on HIPAA and other important laws that relate to handling people's confidentiality. This was important when reviewing applicants' information via Email or Handshake. My coursework in this class helped me stay organized and remember the importance of HIPAA. On the other hand, I wish that I were able to enroll in a free Artificial Intelligence course that Indiana University, Indianapolis was offering students. But I did not look into the information that much; it could have touched on artificial intelligence in healthcare or other general aspects of it.
